HOW TO STYLE A CARDIGAN THIS SEASON:

This outfit was inspired by a recent trip to Paris. When packing for Paris, I like to keep things quite simple; a color palette made up of 3 essential colors – black, red and white. Can you think of anything more Parisian? I wanted to share my take on how to style a cardigan this season. I still believe that there is nothing more effortless chic than an all black outfit, or as the -French would say, tout noir and this look proof.

Today’s post is dedicated to finding that certain je n’ais se qoui with easy to wear cardigan knits. HOW TO WEAR A LONG CARDIGAN

If you break down this look, it’s actually quite simple. What makes it stand out is this incredible fur stole I purchased at my favorite store, Fox’s. Warm layers for brisk days; I layered faux-leather black leggings, which I must say, are the easiest way to achieve a chic and edgy look, along with an over-sized, chunky knit turtleneck. I live in turtlenecks this time of year and I just so happened to layer it under a long cardigan coat I purchased from Mango.

Style tip? Texture! A critical element when wearing a monochromatic look. By adding texture, you can add visual interest but also to break up the look and draw your eye. This fur stole, a purchase last year, is not only a warm layering piece but also happens to look tres chic. It can be worn several ways but I especially love it worn at an angle to offset the look. It’s unexpected and it’s these details that can elevate an everyday look.

While this look was shot in the streets of Chicago, it could have just as easily been worn on the Champs se Elysees. That’s the thing about timeless, easy to wear, classic pieces…they not only transcend time but continents, too.

HOW TO STYLE A CARDIGAN

The great thing about adding a cardigan to your wardrobe is there are so many versatile ways you can style your cardigan. So what are some easy outfit ideas bringing the cardigan front and center?

I’ve always loved a sleek, street style look, styled for a day in the city or for date night. You can also wear an oversized cardigan as a casual look with mom jeans and a graphic tee paired with ankle boots. If you’re worried about looking frumpy, pair skinny jeans with a cozy cardigan and tall boots. A cropped cardigan with wide legs jeans is a perfect everyday look but really any cardigan with jeans can look and feel effortless chic. For days at the office, consider pairing a pencil skirt with a shawl cardigan for a professional look that can transition into after-hours.
