Black and White in Belgrade

I kicked off my first week of vacation in Belgrade. It was unusually hot for this time of year; temperatures rising well above 100 degrees. While the majority of our time was spent with family, I also managed to squeeze in a few yoga classes, indulge in some seriously delicious gelato I found tucked away near the Parliament building and took evening walks along the Danube on what the Belgrade-ins refer to as the quay. I also had the chance to visit my favorite hotel/restaurant, Square 9 and took a Sunday afternoon drive through acres upon acres of sunflower fields. It was magical.

Packing for this trip was a bit tricky since we would be splitting our time between an urban capital and bumming it on the Aegean. I wanted to bring pieces that I could mix and match and wear in both destinations. This outfit was so comfortable yet chic for wandering the city streets. And you can never go wrong with a black and white combo. I barely took off that necklace- apologies in advance. Plan to see much more of it this Summer. I can’t get enough.

There’s something so optimistic about Belgrade- the war-torn history of my people is something the country can’t runaway from or even hide. It’s visible in the demolished buildings, the communistic facades, the old Jugo’s driving around. Yet, the cafes are filled, bustling and humming with electricity and life. Concept stores and fine-dining restaurants among the few western concepts that have popped up and flourished. The younger generations dressed impeccably for an evening stroll, juice bars and high-end boutiques. Change may take years, even generations to actually take place. Belgrade has been turning the wheels and some fabulous things are taking place. Rejuvenating the city and the people.
