First Friday Outfit to Room Series: September

Miscellaneous

first friday

Good Morning lovelies! Happy Friday! Believe it or not, it is September already and the first Friday of the month. If you remember from this post, NoMad Luxuries has teamed up with fellow blogger Heather, from DiSabella Design, to bring you an exciting and inspirational monthly Outfit to Room Series!

September has got me in a Fall state of mind and when I saw this outfit from the Lena Hoschek A/W 2013 Collection at the Berlin Fashion Week, all sorts of ideas were brewing in my mind.

It’s part school girl meets folk artist meets Russian Matryoshka dolls. I love it (and the rest of her collection too!) I know we all have our minds on back to school and this plaid dress is an ode to the school uniform. Paired with hints of folkloric details like the floral scarf, while the braided ‘do adds texture. The knee-high lace up red leather boots, well those add a bit of an edge. The look is bold and edgy yet still pays homage to familial roots.

I am obsessed with this whole outfit and used all the inspiration from these elements to create a children’s playroom…. Folksy, fun and a space for creativity to flow. I had a girl in mind but this room can be easily switched around for a boy’s room as well!

While I don’t have kids yet, I have been working on a quite a few bedroom/play areas for clients. This month’s room made it so much fun to imagine a folksy and storybook-like space.

I absolutely love the plaid design of the dress but didn’t want it to serve as the basis of the room; however it does have to make it’s appearance somehow, and what better way than with a Scottish tartan blanket (yes, from Scotland). The Ikea rug is great for any space and I found that it grounded (pun intended) all the different patterns and colors happening in this room while creating a happy balance. From there we jumped to adding florals with a neutral backdrop as the fabric for the curtains to mimic the floral scarf.

More neutral florals in the whimsical chandelier and how fun is that mushroom pouf from Anthropologie? I’m obsessed. Perfect for your child to rest their feet while reading in their Eames-esque rocking chair. A simple wood sawhorse desk will be where all the magic happens- writing, drawing, imagining up stories. And make sure to keep their feet warm with a sheepskin throw underneath. The matryoshka art print is a daily reminder that your little one is beautiful, inside and out. To bring in more blue into the room, this end table from Threshold really tied in the blue elements from the dress. The mexican folk pillow piped in turquoise is just the icing on the cake.
