I used to moan and groan about making my bed in the mornings as a kid, but my mom insisted that it gets done. There’s days I’ll be running out the door and the bed won’t get even as much as a tug, but for the most part, the bed is always made in our house. It’s generally the first thing I do when I wake up and I’ve noticed that having a made bed with crisp linens makes me feel organized for the rest of the day. Like I already crossed something off my list.

When designing out bedroom, I knew I wanted an inviting and monochromatic space to rest. I didn’t want overpowering colors, loud fabrics or art, I wanted it to be serene, clean and sophisticated. There’s so many little details that make my bedroom such a retreat.

1. No T.V.: I know there’s a lot of different opinions about this and sometimes circumstances require it. Hello, kids. But for right now, no t.v. works for us. There’s no distractions of trash t.v. or breaking news. It allows my mind to quiet down and reflect for a few minutes before bed.

2. Linens: Is there anything better than fresh linens? My gawd. While I totally believe you should invest in good linens since your day begins and ends in bed, you don’t always have to splurge to get good quality. I tend to go for all white linens for a crisp and clean look but lately am tempted to bring in some soft shades of color for Spring. I am itching to pick up a bedding set from Parachute in Powder blue, and since they are handcrafted in Tuscany and actually affordable. I can’t think of a reason not to.  I mist my sheets with a linen spray before bed every night and it literally transports me to the beach. (I’ll do an entire post on this spray- it’s my favorite!)

3. My Vanity: I didn’t think I even needed a vanity but this is one of my favorite things about our bedroom. I love this little nook of mine. I love taking a few moments before bed to slather on my creams, brush my hair and put on body lotion. It’s become somewhat of a ritual that I look forward to. And I’m fighting wrinkles while I’m at it. Win. Win.

4. Fresh Flowers: I always try to have some fresh flowers in the bedroom. Even a bud vase adds a touch of nature. I prefer something less fragrant and more visual. Waking up to the sun shining and fresh blooms? Magical. Next thing you know, I’ll be putting chocolates on our pillows….

5. Custom Curtains: And by custom, I mean Ikea with added trim! I went with the extra long curtains and hung them all the way to the ceiling to give the room the feeling that the ceiling is taller that it actually is. The illusion makes the room feel spacious and also so incredibly luxurious.

What do you do to relax in your bedroom? Any items you splurge vs. save on? I’d love to know!

I love your fur throw at the edge of your bed. Where did you get it from?

Team no TV! It’s the only way to go. Makes such a difference in my quality of sleep, because otherwise I end up falling asleep watching late-night TV and waking up startled in the middle of the night.

I couldn’t agree more! Not to mention, we have enough chatter in our head, rather than adding more right before bed.
