I tend not to talk about my day job on here…I prefer my two lives to stay entirely separate of one another. However, there is no secret that I often times struggle with my corporate and creative identities. This constant notion of tug and war, inspired this week’s style posts (Wednesday, I’ll be posting the second look). For those of you who work in the corporate world, then you understand the constant struggle of styling your “work-appropriate” pieces in a fresh and fashion-forward way. While most offices have caught on with the times and have accepted jeans as appropriate, there are still plenty of places that have not. I’m looking at you, private equity! I really wanted to push the envelope a bit with the concept of what a suit should be. Should. I really dislike using the word should when it comes to fashion. Rather than wearing what we should wear, we can wear pieces that we want and love!
This outfit is a spin on your expected power suit: navy and white. While all of these pieces are separates, they work well together and look like a complete set. I love incorporating a culotte as an unexpected pant in my outfit- it immediately freshens the look up. I paired it with this flowy, asymmetrical white top that has a plunging V-neck and threw on a navy and black pin-stripe blazer from Theory. To add a touch of color and make this Fall-like, I paired the suit with my burnt-orange sandals from Banana Republic and one of my favorite purses from T.J. Maxx. I layered vintage, gold necklaces for a delicate touch and my favorite sunglasses I picked up while I was in Italy last month. I love how edgy they are.
I love how this look is masculine, slightly androgynous and gives off a strong energy. The delicate details and feminine curves balance the look and show that a woman can be both strong, hard-working and gentle. If this look doesn’t scream, “get shit done”, I’m not sure what does!
