Movie Review: Hysteria

Weekend

Another night at Redbox and the selection is looking grim. Petar’s looking for masculine action movies and I’m hoping to come across unrealistically happy chick-flicks. In other words, the usual Friday night. I finally picked Hysteria, so we wouldn’t go home empty-handed.

What an unexpected and hilarious movie. Hysteria, a period movie, set in turn of the century London, is said to be based on true events. Until the 1950’s, us women, were considered to suffer from “Hysteria”; stress, anger, anxious thoughts that could only be cured by a simple technique…below the equator, if you know what I mean. If you don’t… well then you will just have to watch the movie. Hysteria is a tale of love, female pride and new inventions, all with downright funny and witty British humor.  Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy are a pleasure to watch. I just wish there was a bit more focus on their “tension”!

This is a perfect movie to watch with your girlfriends or your hubby. Petar found it extremely funny and it was a great way to unwind, pun intended, on a Friday night.

If you’ve seen the movie, what did you think of it?
