An Aussie couple transplanted their life to New York and after years of renting, they finally decided to commit to a home in Stuyvesant Heights. The home was restored to its natural beauty- we’re talking 5 marble fireplaces! With a neutral color palette of greys and whites, the home has a serene feel to it despite being just right on the outskirts of Manhattan. I absolutely love the mix of antiques with modern pieces. The design pays homage to the natural architecture and bones of the home while keeping the interior clean and minimal. The home is 5 stories and has many different rooms- for whatever time of day. The owners love the way they can go from the parlor to the library and to the informal dining room. Each room has its own feeling and energy. While the home receives a ton of natural light, the juxtaposition of dark walls and big windows is unexpected and works in this space. There are so many details in these old, New York brownstones. Crown molding, wainscoting, marble fireplaces, original wood floors…they all play a part in distinguishing the character of a space. And I can’t stop staring at that floor to ceiling, vintage gold mirror! I just love this space!
