Greece | On The Rocks and a One Piece

My memories are dotted with summers spent in a small village tucked away in the mountains of the Peloponnese. A village, that translates into “Ancient Kingdom” and is said to be the spot where Hercules slayed the lion. History aside, my adolescence knew of a different story. Nights were we would sneak out on our friends’ vespas, welcome the sunrise along the pebble-strewn beach and eat the morning market’s fresh and sweet watermelon. They were carefree and glorious summers, of which I yearned for the rest of the year.

When we decided to go back this summer, we checked into The Poseidon Resort on the coastal-city, Loutraki. It had a quaint, private beach nestled amongst the rocks and crystal clear waters. I spent most of my days submersed in my book, The Rocks: A Novel; under a vintage, wide-brimmed hat I recently picked up for $3 and cooling off in the refreshing Aegean, careful not to step on a sea urchin. I love that one-piece bathing suits have become popular again, dare I say, sexy? I bought this tribal-inspired piece by Nanette Lepore and love how a bit of beading and stitching can look so chic. The cut is super-flattering, too!

All my responsibilities had melted away in the Mediterranean sun and I happily obliged. These moments, few and far between, need to be created. When I wasn’t recharging my batteries, I would spend the days exploring ruins and ancient cities. It was exactly what I had hoped for on this vacation – a balance of resting and yet fueling my desire to see something new and exciting.
