Friday Fright: Decor

Holiday

We are one week away from our Halloween Fête and every weekend I try to pick up a few additional pieces for decorating or simply do a DIY around the house to get the apartment ready for guests. I’m getting really excited to have all of our friends under one roof, enjoying in each other’s company. That’s what it’s all about, after all. Not to mention, I’m excited to transform our space into an eerie and luxurious party.

I’ve taken inspiration from all over- magazines, Pinterest (of course) and blogs. Remember this photo?

I’ve used this for my main inspiration and purchased décor to follow suit.

I’ve printed off a few vintage-inspired photos to fill my vintage gold frames. This site, Vintage Printables, I came across on the blog Chris Loves Julia and it’s fabulous. All of their prints are free and are an easy update for the holidays or for that matter, any event.  A few of my favorites for Halloween were: The Mushroom Botanicals, Bats and what I’ve coined, the Bearded Woman.

Buffet: The dining room will be set up with the food buffet, including dessert and cocktails. This is where the majority of the décor will be focused.

I created a tablecloth with a simple black piece of fabric overlaid with a spooky metallic fabric. As the main centerpiece, I used the gold tray I had in our home and covered it with moss and glass candlesticks from the dollar store. The plants are fake and generally frame our fireplace- I thought they add a perfect touch to the Edwardian look. I only purchased 3 gauzy pieces of cloth and am in definite need of more. I plan on covering that whole wall and the photo-booth wall.

Photo booth: I wanted to create a photo booth for the event, since it’s not every day we all have a chance to get together.  Our fireplace wall comes out and creates a great backdrop for fun photos. I plan on using black gauze/cloth (shown above) to frame the wall and add black balloons that will hang upside down. Everyone is required to wear (or bring) a mask for the photo opp, and I’ve thrown in a few mustaches for good measure.

The skull heads are multipurpose: grim decor and they add seasoning to your food (Salt & Pepper shakers). World Market’s Blood Orange sparkling juice will be mixed with prosecco and stored in test tubes for sweet and bubbly shots. I will let guests choose their blood type.

The Vampire Milk Chocolate bars are another World Market find and will be for guests to take home as a sweet reminder of the evening. I threw in my glass pomegranate from Istanbul, a mason jar with paper- striped straws and my new Goodwill find: a crystal water carafe. How gorgeous is that thing? And only $2.00!

Since this is still a work in progress and you’ll just have to wait and see how everything comes together next week. I’m pleased so far with how it’s all coming along. It’s spooky and yet romantic and has an allure even your most stubborn guests won’t be able to refuse.

I would love to know your thoughts on the look. Do you have any suggestions to make this more spooky?
