Energy is a notion I haven’t given much thought to but one that seems to constantly be swirling around me. Over the years, you tend to look back and notice a pattern about your life. Not only about yourself, but also the type of people you tend to attract. So, when a good friend recently asked me to reflect on the type of energy I was putting out, I decided to really give it some thought.
I consider myself a receptive person and have been told so on various occasions; I tend to pick up on the energies around me. Perhaps that’s where all my anxiety stems from, the unwanted energy floating around, not visible to the naked eye but absorbed, nevertheless by our emotions. Sure, it sounds a bit hokey but once I started observing how I felt around certain people, this concept of ‘energy’ really started to make sense. You can equate it to the common term of listening to your gut. There’s a reason you feel an immediate connection with someone you just met or perhaps why someone makes you feel uneasy, nervous even, in their presence.
And while it’s far easier to notice someone else’s energy than your own, lately I’ve been trying to be more aware of the energy I give off to others. It’s an ongoing goal of mine, but especially this year, to surround myself with positive people and those that inspire me. In order for me to attract that, I have to be giving off the same. And while your energy can’t be necessarily seen, it can be immediately felt. Through a broad grin or perhaps a tall and confident stance; a firm handshake or an endearing nod. Either way, one thing is for certain, whatever you’re giving off, it follows you around so make sure to wear it proudly much like your best accessory.
