I couldn’t imagine a more fitting way to describe 2016, other than a house guest that’s simply over-stayed their welcome. You know the kind…It was a year of undeniable juxtapositions, highs and lows that simply couldn’t be avoided. If someone had told me that Mercury had permanently gone retrograde, I wouldn’t have batted an eye. If there was any consolation, this celestial shift seemed to be widely felt. There is a touch of solace knowing that I was not the only one having a shitty year. And while it felt as though this year was over in a blink of an eye, I simply can’t imagine enduring yet another day. Good riddance.

A recap of 2016, you ask? An election that left most of America baffled and speechless; a trait seldom associated with our country. We’ve lost countless icons, over a spectrum of creative industries. George Michael, being the most devastating news to me this Christmas. His lyrics will continue to fuel my fire and hard work in 2017. Respects to you, Mr. Michaels. You were nothing short of legendary to me. My title of “wife”, that I had desperately held on to for the past five years, was forcefully stripped away. It wasn’t meant to be, not now, not with him. I found myself reverting back to my old name, an identity I thought I knew but yet found myself entirely unfamiliar with. A year of creating new definitions.  Not all was black and solemn; there were memorable trips, grand strides professionally and unexpected, yet welcomed distractions along the way.

ASPIRATIONS

Career: 2017 will offer lots of changes for NoMad Luxuries, both aesthetically and strategically. Without giving too much away, expect to see newer content, more of it, a new look and more services. I also have hopes to find more creative outlets; ones that are more tangible.

Financial: Investments have taken on a bit of a priority in the last year with more of an emphasis in 2017. Hoping to add trusted individuals to my circle, if nothing more than for their expertise and wisdom on how to build an empire. You didn’t think I would actually settle for anything less, did you?

Health: Focusing on both mental and physical, an overall transformation of my well-being. Consistency tends to be a reoccurring thought when it comes to my health; consistency of work-out routines, prepping meals and more positive thoughts and affirmations. Basically, more is the motto, here.

Love: Hoping for a whole lot of self love in this new year. With that, I hope to spend more time doing the things that I love and bring me true happiness: traveling, entertaining, designing, cooking, creating, exploring, etc.  And while I would be grateful to find a companion, someone who I can truly enjoy in sharing these small joys with and an individual that is exceptional company, I am not focused on that. I hope matters of the heart to happen spontaneously and evolve naturally. For now, the only guarantee in love, is the love I choose to show myself.

Joy: There will be no room for anything, or anyone, that doesn’t bring me pure joy and positive energy into my life. There are hopes for more collaborations with fellow-creatives, dusting off my social butterfly wings and surrounding myself with infectiously positive people. Travel- an aspiration permanently etched into my life goals. Hopes of more organized notebooks, bookshelves, thoughts and schedules- an expectation that if this can be mastered, productivity and success will eventually follow.

SO NICE OF YOU TO STOP BY….AS I GRAB THE PACKED BAGS AND HEAD TOWARDS THE DOOR. AND SO, WITHOUT FURTHER ADIEU, I WEAR A POLITE SMILE, AS ONE SHOULD, AS I WAVE AN EAGER GOODBYE TO 2016. AN OVER-STAYED GUEST, INDEED.
