When buying furniture, we tend to think “investment pieces”. It helps justify the few thousand you’re dropping on that sofa. But in all reality, styles change. Your husband might not love your fuchsia headboard as much as you do or your new city living doesn’t even have a dining room. All in all, it’s ok to sell and buy and resell and buy again.
While I love my leather sectional when I bought it two years ago (and for a deal I couldn’t pass up), it just doesn’t fit our new condo. Our new living room is 20’ x 16’ and a sectional would break up the flow of the room. Petar and I figured it would be best to sell and find a sofa with some additional seating to create more of an intimate space.
Here’s a photo of our cognac colored leather sectional. I just love this color. It’s so rich and almost decadent but can still be played off as a neutral.
{When we first moved in… }
{After a bit of TLC }
We purchased this new sofa off of craigslist for $215.00 (including delivery!). It measures in at 94.5” or roughly 7.9 feet. That’s one long sofa! I loved that the back and arms were the same length; I suppose the right terminology is a “tuxedo sofa”. Even though I’m loving the current upholstery, aqua tweed, it’s a bit old and worn out looking, and it could definitely use some reviving. That, I will save for another day.
Take a peek at the new sofa. Isn’t she a beauty? So long and lean with clean lines. Love. My only concern is that she’s not as tall as I hoped. The back seems a bit low for comfort. But then again compared to the sectional, everything would feel low. The sofa has great legs and it’s a shame that they hide them under those unnecessary skirts. So many old sofas can be given a modern look by taking away that bottom skirt. Think about it for a quick fix.
{Yes, we currently have two large sofas in our small apartment… The leather sectional was sold and is going to its new home on Saturday. Woo! }
Even though I’m smitten with the new seating, I’m considering finding another (Craigslist) sofa with a higher back and maybe cushions? What do you all think? Keep or Sell?
