Monday Obsession: Overdyed Rugs

Interiors

Good morning!  I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. This weekend was so low-key and wonderful that I need to enforce these types of R&R sessions more often. Other than making it out for dinner and mojitos Saturday night, the rest of the weekend was spent lounging around, getting organized, working on exciting things for NL, and planning some much-needed travel! This NoMad is itching for a trip!

This Monday’s obsession is all about the over-dyed rugs. I absolutely love the worn look with an unexpected pop of color. Just because the rugs generally come in vibrant hues doesn’t mean that they need to steal the scene from the rest of the space. There are more neutral versions that take a back seat. Let’s have a look, shall we?

Many of the over-dyed rugs that I’ve come across are quite pricey but there are quite a few popping up that won’t break the bank, like this, this and this one! There are also some great DIY tutorials, like this one, that if you’re brave enough to tackle, might be worth giving a try. What do you think? Would you go this bold in your own space?

I love the overdyed rug look too! Thanks for the link to the RIT dye DIY – I hadn’t seen that one. I was googling DIY overdye rugs a few months ago because I want to overdye the rug in our sunroom. I’m going to try it with an acid yellow color Benjamin Moore latex paint, watered down and combined with fabric medium to keep the paint soft after it dries. Hopefully will do it this weekend, because I’m finally home for a weekend. Will post on my blog about how it goes! Hopefully it will go okay so latex paint & fabric medium can be an easy option for people. I found one DIY that turned out GREAT – looked just like an ABC Carpet & Home overdyed rug – but involved getting close & personal with nasty chemicals. I’d rather paint …

I can’t wait to see that post, Deb! I agree, I would prefer not to mix with any dangerous chemicals if you don’t have to. Happy painting this weekend- I’ll be getting my painting on too! It’s a good weekend for DIYs! A
