Oscars 2015 Recap

Style

Did you guys all watch the Oscars last night? I absolutely love award season and it makes the cold and endless winter a bit more bearable! I need to see Birdman, because they killed it last night. Actually, I have quite a few of the Oscar nominated movies to catch up on! But, today I really want to talk fashion. Duh. nailed it

Emma Stone wore Elie Saab and that shade of green is perfection on her skin tone. The orange lip, the side-swept hair, this girl is on fire. Cate Blanchett can do no wrong for me. She always pushes the envelope and her style is impeccable. She wore Maison Margiela Couture. The dress was simple and appeared to be a beautiful black velvet, and how about that statement necklace? Her hair, her makeup. I bow down to her. Rosamund Pike looked stunning in the color of the evening and she wore Givenchy. For being nominated, and just having a baby, she couldn’t have worn a more flattering dress! These three right here absolutely nailed it!

black and white 800

In black, white and shades of grey, these ladies always know how to dress for their body types and always stay true to their style. Naomi Watts in Armani was stunning and I love the racer-back style of the dress. Her tousled waves and makeup was right on point. Reese Witherspoon wore Tom Ford and this dress fit her like a glove. So very Hollywood glamour that she always brings. Love! Sienna Miller in Oscar de la Renta looked fantastic. I liked seeing her in a darker color and the feminine detailing of the dress.

Jennifer Aniston wore Atelier Versace and hands down, this is the best she’s looked on the red carpet. The beaded dress was sexy, so flattering on her body and she still remained true to her style with her undone hair and neutral makeup. J.Lo wore Elie Saab and this was definitely a princess moment. I love that the dress was completely monochromatic and I think that’s what made it a success. The deep v-neck added a touch of sexy and the pony tail was the perfect contrast to the feminine and “girl-y” dress. Julianne Moore wore Custom Chanel because we all kind of knew she was going to take home the Oscar. She looked beautiful and confident in her dress and the bead work was stunning. She’s another actress that always takes risks with her fashion and I always love to see what she will wear!

Oh, Marion Cotillard. You are so perfectly French and gorgeous… I feel like white has been her thing to award shows and this dress by Dior Haute Couture is so stunning. That train! Tres jolie!

colored options

Ok… These looks could have been amazing on the red carpet but needed a bit of a tweaking. Scarlet Johansson in Atelier Versace looked stunning in that emerald shade of green. The dress fit her like a glove. The necklace? Got to go. Jennifer Hudson wore Romona Keveza and I think she looked absolutely stunning. The silhouette and cut was beautiful on her not to mention the yellow was bold and unexpected. Jessica Chastain wore Givenchy and while I loved the midnight blue, the double layer on top significantly aged her. Her hair was a bit frumpy for me and I think she’s looked better so many other times. These could have been so good!

Nicole, I expected more from you. Nicole Kidman looked like a washed-up fish. She wore Louis Vuitton and this felt so very 90’s spice girls. Thumbs down. Anna Kendricks, of what I understand, styles herself, which is a huge kudos but this dress, which was custom Thakoon looks like she’s going to her prom. This is definitely not red carpet worthy and felt a bit too juvenile for her. Chloë-Grace-Moretz wore Miu Miu and the cut just ruined it for me. It wasn’t tailored properly, she looked frumpy and way too old for her age. Failed it!

What were some of your favorite looks of the evening? Who were you utterly disappointed by? And can we briefly talk about Patricia Arquette’s amazing speech last night? “To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights,” she announced. “It is our time to have wage equality once and for all, and equal rights for women in the United States of America!” You get it girl! Amazing.
