Catalonian Flair

Holiday

Nomad Luxuries; a very busy environment within a restaurant

{ A bustling Mercat }

Last week we spoke about Holiday Traditions here, and we recently added one to our list. We went and saw the Joffrey Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker. It was absolutely wonderful and it was the perfect way to get into the Holiday spirit.

We first dined at our favorite tapas restaurant in the city, Mercat a la Planxa, that’s worthy of its own blog post. Seriously, if you haven’t been- you.must.go! This isn’t your authentic and traditional tapas, these are Catalonian specialties. Let’s test your geography skills: Barcelona is part of the Catalonian Region and they speak Catalan there. Whether you passed, or failed that pop-quiz, the food is ridiculous. The presentation is modern, the ambience is grand yet quiet and the prices can’t be beat. Not to mention their delicious Spanish wine list.

                                               Nomad Luxuries; eloquently plated croquette dessert.

                Our Must-try dishes:

  • Monte Enebro: Served with Pear & Saffron Compote. Reason enough to order.
  • Mixto Croquetas: Traditional tapas that are served pretty as ever.
  • Jamon Serrano: If you really want to splurge, order the Jamon Iberico. You can’t go wrong.
  • Pelotas de calabaza y cordero:  Favorite alert!!!  Butternut squash, lamb ragout, lamb bacon and black truffle. Need I say more?
  • Gambas al ajillo: Shrimp with garlicy-goodness and a red-pepper kick.
  • Croquetas de Xocolata: Sweet and savory and bite-size. So you won’t feel so bad when you finish the whole plate. Don’t judge!

Nomad Luxuries; beautifully plated dumpling entree with avant garde elements

Wash it down with a smooth Tempranillo and be sure there will be no buyer’s remorse after you see the bill. A great meal that doesn’t break the bank, done!

I see a Holiday dinner in the near future….

Enjoy!

Xx
