Balancing My Chakras

Miscellaneous

I finally booked myself a session at Hamsa Ayurveda & Yoga to get my chakras balanced. I’ve wanted to do this for quite some time but could never justify splurging. I don’t necessarily know if my Chakras were unbalanced per-se, but I do know that I’ve been feeling a bit off lately. When it comes to alternative and holistic medicine, I’ll try pretty much anything.  So when Hamsa was having their sale, I jumped at the occasion.

Upon arrival, the serene interiors and friendly greetings immediately made me feel calm and relaxed. I didn’t know what to expect, since this was my first ayurvedic treatment. I changed into a robe and sipped on hot mint tea in the relaxation room. The quote printed on the inside of the mug, “When words are both true and kind, they can change our world.”- Buddha, was exactly the positive affirmation I needed.

The 2-hour session included aghyanga, a full-body massage using medicated, heated oils followed by the chakra balancing. Oils are first poured into your hair and massaged into your scalp. It was all sorts of amazing. My massage therapist, Janice, was friendly and had strong hands (exactly how I like my massages). And above all, she answered the hundred questions I had for her with a smile. This was research, after all.

Completely stress free and practically swimming in a pool of oils, it was time for my chakra balancing. Monica, the founder of Hamsa built small dams (which resemble bowls) out of chickpea flour along my spine. Seven bowls were created, one for each chakra, and then filled with hot oils, also known as thailams. The point is to saturate the energetic pathways. A crystal was placed in my right hand and my ears vibrated to the sound of chimes.  Each chakra is given special attention and then Monica chants positive affirmations when one has been completed. I felt pulsations in different parts of my body for each chakra. I have to say, it was strange and yet amazing how all those elements came together in harmony.

After the treatment, I took a hot rain shower to wash off all the oils and come back to Earth. It was a rejuvenating experience and I plan on going back to try the myriad of treatments on their menu. Hamsa Ayurveda & Yoga also offers yoga sessions and lifestyle programs. Even though they have been open a few months in Chicago, I have a feeling they will be a huge hit. My third eye of intuition predicts it!

Have you tried any ayurvedic treatments before? Are you open to holistic medicine or are you skeptical? Would love to hear your feedback!

Totally love alternative medicine but never tried this. It sounds like a lovely surprising experience. Glad you had the opportunity to try it.
